It’s Easter…or Resurrection Day. A day that a miracle happened. A day like no other. It wasn’t enough that Christ called out Lazarus from the grave. No, that would have been just too simple. Besides, the opponent didn’t know Lazarus as well as they knew Jesus. There are no real accounts of Lazarus in the bible…other than he died and was resurrected.  We have no insights as to why he died. We only know that he was dead, and he rose again.

It’s that like Christianity is today? A lot of people, especially Christians, fill our churches on Easter Sunday. The only day out of the year where churches actually see near to capacity attendance. And for good reason: The account of Jesus’ resurrection carries with it a very strong message of hope! Let’s face it: every Christian leads a life of hardship. Some have it more extreme than others. But it’s those of us whom Jesus knows that will get the worst of the firey trials. Trials that will harden us to the point that we develop a sharp edge…an edge so fine, the Lord will use it to cut through the trail of legalized paperwork that man has set up for ourselves.

It’s not easy being Christian. Yes, there is the blessedness of life. We stumble onto Jesus either early or late, we revel in his forgiveness, in his everlasting love. Yet we are soon aware that trials are part of the program. We get knocked out of our safe zone. We get flattened like a steamroller. If we have any dross thing left over from the world we knew, it gets purged out of our system. And yes, the constant squeezing and wringing hurts. Sometimes it hurts like hell. You see, the life that Jesus beckons us to is a life of constant change.  It’s not one that says “You have arrived!” It’s one of “A little further now!” On the road to Golgotha…it was a heavy burden until the final destination…yet it wasn’t the final, final destination. There is always a little bit more to go.

And that’s what many Christians don’t understand! We must be dying on a daily, constant basis, or there can be no resurrection of hope. The old flesh has to come off, peeled off, skinned alive. If you are not feeling like you are being skinned on a daily basis, then you aren’t really living the Christian resurrection. There’s no Sunday, there’s no Friday, there is no weekend. It’s a daily grind that leaves you totally exhausted. But within Christ, there is always rest. Rest knowing that your reward is with and in Him!

For the Christian the fighting of the process of being refined is not a trivial matter. When the Spirit beckons you, you cannot shrug it off. The Truth is hard to ward off. It’s not a Easter Sunday truth, it’s a 24/7/365 constantly-on-your-back truth. It never leaves you alone, it only walks beside you, opening your eyes, taking off the blinders so you can see what is real.

Yet many are walking, and will walk in denial. There are those that do not seek Jesus, do not seek His face. Their reliance is on other people, and other things. In short, they trivialize Jesus. But Jesus, the Lord of lords, still beckons to them: ““Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” It almost sounds like a small plea, doesn’t it? Yet Jesus doesn’t exclude anyone from the sound of His voice. It crosses defined borders, races, regions, and even time itself. They heard His voice 2,000 or so years ago, and we still hear His voice today. It’s as strong as ever. What remains to do is simply open our hearts and then our minds.

I’ll tell you what…If Jesus can interrupt the enemy’s plans by rising on the third day, and by truly forgiving man’s sins, no matter what they are….then we, as a fallen creation, can rise up to meet His expectations! So let’s do this thing called repentance and obedience…now and forever!

Italian priest blames earthquakes on gay unions

Why are his words offensive to believers though? I could never understand that reasoning. God Can Do Whatever God Want To Do, especially when Sin is present. Anything touching the topic of Homosexuality is an abomination to God. Even a man putting on a woman’s clothing is an abomination. Should God not react? I guess it’s true that many Catholics just don’t read their Bibles, even the religion’s own priests. If they did perhaps they wouldn’t make such absurd and ridiculous statements!

An Italian priest has said the recent earthquakes that have shaken the country, killing hundreds and leaving tens of thousands homeless, were “divine punishment” for gay civil unions, earning the Vatican’s wrath.

Father Giovanni Cavalcoli, a theologian known for his hardline views, made the comments on October 30, the day central Italy was struck by a 6.6-magnitude quake — the most powerful to hit the country in 36 years — according to Italian media.

Cavalcoli said on Radio Maria that the seismic shocks were “divine punishment” for “the offence to the family and the dignity of marriage, in particular through civil unions”.

The radio station distanced itself from his views and late Friday the Vatican issued a stinging rebuke, saying the idea of a vengeful God was “a pagan vision” dating from “the pre-Christian era”.

Archbishop Angelo Becciu, number two in the Vatican’s powerful Secretariat of State, said Cavalcoli’s comments were “offensive to believers and disgraceful for non-believers”, in remarks reported by Italian media.

Becciu asked for forgiveness from quake victims and reminded them they had the “solidarity and support” of Pope Francis.

But Cavalcoli has refused to back down, insisting to another radio station that earthquakes are indeed caused by “the sins of man” and telling the Vatican to “read their catechism”.

Legislation allowing gay civil unions in Italy only took effect last month, making it the last country in Western Europe to legally recognise same-sex relationships.

One final thought on todays post: Many people, including Christians are under the sad impression that God swiped Sodom and Gomorrah for sins that do not include sodomy/homosexuality. This is entirely false, as it were the threat of homosexuality was the very last straw before God’s ultimate wrath that saw the end of those two great cities: Just moments before the visiting angels told Lot to flee the city, the angels blinded the men knocking at Lot’s door. This appears to be the chief reason today why many Homosexuals either deny their sin, or deny God altogether: God has blinded them!

God is at it 24/7…Is Evil Laughing at You?

Just a short post for today:

As you can tell by now, I am on a Halloween kick this season. Yes. I am on a roll, so let’s let it roll….

Ok, so if you are a Christian, and you have been one for a while now, then answer me these two questions:

Does God ever take a vacation?
Does evil ever rest?

Now I know you know the answers, because the answer to both questions are

NO!

God took his day of rest on the 7th day after creation. But ever since then He’s been very active. Based on the level of God’s interaction with His creation, you would be hard pressed to believe that God rests. Frankly, there’s too much for God to do! He’s busy correcting His children, leading them, guiding them, even punishing them at times.

God is at it 24/7 man! He doesn’t have time to waste.

You know as Christians we spend so much time downing the 2 hour or so events of October 31st/Halloween that we sometimes forget that October 31st is a creation of God. We take all that is evil about the world (witches, demons. goblins, and ghosts hauntings) and roll it up into a nice little package that last for less than 2/24ths of a single day!

Are we forgetting that evil doesn’t rest? Why are we actively pursuing a witch hunt on just a single day?

Just a short thought for today.

 

He wants you to suffer, not prosper!

I once took a yoga class.

Yeah.

My main, ok…my only reason for doing so was to hang out with some friends.

Did you know that a whale shouldn’t do yoga?

I mean, it just doesn’t look right. It doesn’t feel natural.

It’s kind of performing a somersault in gym class in school. It just went wrong.

I have a hard time accepting other’s people’s religions. While everybody seems to be on the same page, a lot of time there’s a bit of difference. It’s not much, but it effectively tells you “I’m not going to do that again.”

Since Jesus walked among us there has  been talk of who He was, and what He was doing, and what He was sent to do.  Jesus, in His rather peaceful, but bloody mission, broke all the molds of what people thought He would be. I don’t know why it was that people expected Him to be a conquering King. I’ve seen the results of war overseas (and on the dirt of our country) in my young life, and it’s never pretty. Women raped, children beaten, houses burned….And Christianity has, indeed been one of the most bloody religions ever to exist.

Did Jesus come to stop all this? Many would say yes. And they may be right. But before we receive any kind of blessing, there has to be bloodshed. The blood may be real, or it may be spiritual. But the Christian must suffer. The suffering may be separation of family, death, poverty, and even down to a total and ultimate reliance on God!

Thankfully, I haven’t been to that last part in my life. Not yet… Physically and to a point, needfully, God has blessed me. I may be low on what is inside my cupboards. But I eat every day. I have a roof over my head, and clothes on my back. I may not have a lot of money, but I make it through day to day just fine.

Here’s the deal: there are many people heading to church to hear the good news of the Gospel. These people are either in a rough place, or they are suffering. But someone has given them the idea, or they have had the idea, that God is a provider of wealth, and that God is going to deliver them from so and so.

That was never God’s plan! God’s plan was to reconcile the lost to Himself. God wanted His children in total communion with Him. He wanted, and wants to close the great divide that was and is caused by sin.

That’s the rich, prosperous life right there.

It’s not about lessening the pain, the suffering, the poverty that life has given us. We WILL have hardship in this life. It’s not going to be a smooth ride. (Just ask any parent who worries about their children!)  If it were then the image of Jesus carrying the cross through the streets of His Holy city is a false representation of what the future holds for the Christian.

WE SHALL SHARE IN HIS SUFFERING!

But the end of that suffering…is every bit worth it.

I STRONGLY suggest that if you are a God loving Christian, and you are in a church that teaches nothing but blessings, that you pick up the Bible and read it in it’s entirety. Not just the nice parts, but all the parts that your Pastor doesn’t cover. I also suggest that you watch movies about the Passion of Christ (Yes, watch Mel Gibson’s the Passion of Christ!) And just remember:  God never said it would be easy.

But yeah, it will be worth it!

I stepped into your bedless room (they took yoiur hospital bed away right away), and there is an emptiness. I stepped into your walk in closet with all your clothes hanging, realizing you have a new gown of white and just broke down. I’m glad you’re not suffering. Maybe it’s selfish, but the biggest challenge I face now is a total change of life without you. Soon this house will have a complete makeover and the old things will fade. The new things will come, and perhaps my heart will break even further because I will realize that the painful stripping away has just began. You were my best friend, my confident, my mother and my guiding light. Yes, you are with the Lord now, and you have been reunited with your own father, mother, husband and granddaughter. There is, and always will be an immediate void, I will perhaps awake, as if from a dream, and you will be there. But that waking is in it’s own due time.
