Jesus Whipped It!

And when he had made a scourge of small cords, he drove them all out of the temple, and the sheep, and the oxen; and poured out the changers’ money, and overthrew the tables; He told those who were selling doves, “Get these things out of here! Stop turning My Father’s house into a marketplace!” John 2:15-16

There’s nothing quite like an angry God, or His Son! Yahweh didn’t like sellers in His Father’s house. To put it simply: they didn’t belong there. There is no biblical reason given why…that is that this is a first in the entire Bible! This is the first time that we encounter merchandizing in God’s house! This is also the first time that we see Jesus explode with such anger. Not only does he take a whip and use it in anger against the pigeon sellers, but he also overturns their tables. I imagine the tables were close to each other.

Literally, Jesus made a mess of things! The scene was so bad, the merchants couldn’t find all their change, and nobody knew which of the many pigeons was theirs!

(I’m assuming that there were only pigeons being sold, because the verse doesn’t say anything else.)

The point is that Jesus saw something that bothered Him going on inside the church. Something wasn’t right at all.
And He called the church out on it!

Of course, the Pharisees thought they had something to say about it. After all, you know, we know, Jesus knew…that they were profiting off the merchant’s business.

Jesus got angry! He got steamed! You know when God’s Son grabs a whip…it’s not a pretty thing.

And yet the astonishing thing about the whole scene is that later on, the Pharisees use a whip on the Savior! And it tears away at the very flesh of the Lord!

Payback? Not quite. The Pharisees missed a crucial point: When Jesus uses a whip out of anger to clean His temple…it’s a righteous, lawful, cleansing act backed by love…for the Father, and for the church. When they used it, it was a self-righteous, self-served, undeserved, hiding act.

The birds being sold were part of the old system of sin offerings. You basically offered two birds for each sin that you wanted to cover. That way you were instantly covered by the way of the flesh, i.e; the work of your hands.

Jesus said “No, that’s not going to work anymore! This is a spiritual matter, and spiritual matters are not easy!”

So many of us look for an easy way out, let’s face it: we want the easy way out, and we are ready to hand over money for it: whether it be in form of CDS, DVDs, or even books. And there are people out there who will, and do, take advantage of that! It’s like the Old West Traveling Medicine Show…everything you need is all contained in one package!

BULLWHACKY!

The Bible is only one half of the answer. The second half is you!
You only get out of the Bible as much as you put into the Bible!
So don’t look to the left,
and don’t look to the right.
Look straight ahead to The Bible!

Don’t let the Lord’s whip become your reality!

Post-Op (One Week)

Encouragement, Thankfulness | Posted by Inpulse1

Well it’s been almost a week since my surgery last Wednesday. I’m still experiencing a lot of pain which is normal and expected. What I am having the most trouble with is the amount of saliva the post op is producing. I am unable to sleep a good night’s sleep because I have to spit it out on a constant basis…I don’t want to drown in it. That wouldn’t be good.

Of course, I am still on a liquid diet, which I also expected. But geeze willy, I sure do want a cheeseburger! (kidding).

Medication is making me drowsy. I actually fell out of bed this morning while I was attempting to get out of bed.

I’ve heard the pain will last up to three weeks. I still can’t talk…

But I am thankful that the surgery did go well.
